Professor Valmaine Toki

Professor Valmaine Toki holds a BA LLB (Hons) MBA LLM and PhD in law, and also a current practicing certificate. As the grateful recipient of the He Ture Pūmau scholarship she worked at Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission/Te Ohu Kaimoana where she completed her MBA in Marine Resource Management from the University of Tasmania.

Valmaine is the first Māori and New Zealander appointed to the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and more recently appointed by the President of the UN Human Rights Council to the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
